Othon Coubine, the artist name of Otakar Kubín, is a French-Czech artist of Moravian origin whose career links training in Central Europe, settling in France and landscapes from several regions. After studying at the academies of Prague and Antwerp and travelling to Italy in 1902–1903, he settled in France in 1905. In 1912, he moved to Paris and adopted the name Coubine; he became a French citizen in 1926. His documented subjects include landscapes of Tuscany, Provence, Auvergne and the Hautes-Alpes, as well as still lifes. A floral still life is described as a signed oil on canvas, measuring 61 × 50 cm.

In Paris, he exhibited in 1925 at the Guiot and Barbazanges galleries, as well as in the exhibitions of the Société des peintres-graveurs indépendants. He went on to show his work at the Galerie Briant-Robert in 1926, then at the Galerie Druet in 1936, alongside Gérard Cochet, Jacques Lestrille and Robert Lotiron. Two books devoted to the artist appeared in 1929: Charles Kunstler’s book in the « Les Artistes nouveaux » series and A.-H. Martinie’s critical study in the « Les Peintres nouveaux » series. Works documented by sale results include *Printemps en Provence, les amandiers en fleurs*, sold in 2006, *Le Duel*, sold in 2012, and *Le Garçon de café*, an oil on canvas dated around 1912, sold in 2021.
