The Italian painter and printmaker Mario Reviglione, born in 1883 and died in 1965, studied with Giacomo Grosso and Paolo Gaidano at the Accademia Albertina in Turin from 1900 to 1903. Il sonno (Notturno), formerly the central panel of the triptych Notturno (Allegory of the Night), depicts a sleeping figure, wrapped in a blanket beneath a vast night sky. According to the work’s catalogue entry, the side panels depicted a person seated beneath a starry sky, shown from the front in one and from the back in the other. The central panel is recorded as having been reproduced in the journal Emporium, volume LXIV, number 382, in October 1926. The published provenance mentions the Santo’Agostino gallery in Turin in 2004, followed by the Francis Meyer collection.
This profile brings together identity references for Mario Reviglione and paintings, drawings and works on paper documented in auction catalogues.
