Edward Arthur Walton (1860–1922) was a Scottish painter whose career connected Glasgow, London and Edinburgh. A landscape and portrait painter, he belonged to the Glasgow Boys. With his fellow artists, he took an interest in French approaches to landscape and in the effects of natural light observed outdoors in rural Scotland. His training included a period in Düsseldorf and studies at Glasgow School of Art, supplemented by working alongside other painters. Autumn Sunshine, an oil painting of 1883 held by the Hunterian, documents this landscape practice. His career subsequently took him to London and Edinburgh. Portraiture complemented his observation of rural settings, giving the human figure another place within his work.
This profile brings together identity references for Edward Arthur Walton and paintings, drawings and works on paper documented in auction catalogues.
