Jackie Battenfield, born in Pittsburgh in 1950, is an American artist whose paintings and prints explore natural phenomena. Graduating from Pennsylvania State University in 1971, she received an MFA in visual art from Syracuse University in 1978. Branches, clouds, reflections and ripples provide starting points for images that connect landscape observation with abstraction.
She works particularly with acrylic on Mylar, a translucent, non-absorbent support that encourages transparency and the movement of pigments. Her prints also employ handmade papers. Moments of Change surveyed her graphic work at the University of Richmond in 2009 and subsequently at the University of Arizona in 2011. In 2009 she published The Artist’s Guide, a book addressing artists’ professional lives.
