Lafont

Born in 1853.

Died in 1916.

French · Figurative painting · views of Paris and still lifes.

Émile René Lafont, presented in the collection under the name Lafont, practises a figurative style attentive to atmosphere and changing light. The Parisian views documented in auction catalogues occupy an important place within the accessible body of his work. Monuments, quays and the waters of the Seine form an image of the city that is both architectural and atmospheric.

Vue des Invalides en hiver, a signed oil on canvas offered by Ruellan, demonstrates his interest in urban landscapes and seasonal effects. A view of the Orsay building, recorded by Hampel, develops another aspect of this repertoire: the relationship between monumental façades, activity on the river and reflections of shifting light.

Bouquet d’œillets, presented by Swiss Art Gallery, addresses a more intimate subject. Its white and pink flowers against a brown background emphasise colour relationships and supple brushwork. This floral still life belongs to this body of work.

The works by Lafont presented by Swiss Art Gallery extend this artistic journey and take their place naturally within this corpus.
