Regional press sources explicitly identify “Eugène de Madelin” as his professional name, while the Swiss Art Archives record his full identity and precise life dates. According to the Galerie des Annonciades, he studied under Jean-Charles Rambert. Devaud lived in Fribourg for several years before settling in Montreux around 1980, where Lake Geneva again became a central source of inspiration.
His documented body of work consists chiefly of figurative oil landscapes depicting Lake Geneva, Lavaux, Villeneuve, Saint-Saphorin, the Dents du Midi, the Matterhorn and other Alpine sites. The Swiss Art Gallery paintings “Vue sur le Lac Léman et les Rochers de Naye” and “Tempête sur le Léman” therefore belong to a thematic repertoire consistent with signed works documented in galleries and auction catalogues. In 1972 he exhibited with Christian Henry at the Hôtel Duc Berthold in Fribourg.
The City of Morges also holds his oil painting “Lac Léman et Dents du Midi”, which entered the municipal collection through the estate of Edith Ruth Wydler.
